Broken Baby by Mynxi
Today I decided to do something that has been in my mind for a couple of weeks now. My beta, the wonderful Mynxi, has written a Charlie/Bella fic. Yeah...what you’re thinking now is probably what I was thinking too. But, it being Mynxi, I read it. From the first word on the chapter, she explains the angle at which she has come at this story from. In her authors note, she makes it clear that this isn’t some incest smut fic or an excuse to be shocking, and while her head is pretty fucked up for writing this...it isn't as fucked up as the people that actually do out in the RL. This is something that happens, as sickening as it is, in the real world. In her fic, Bella doesn’t come out of her catatonic phase...and Charlie finds a rather unconventional way to try and bring her out of it, or in the end, simply get some sort of response out of her.
Yes, there is sexual scenes in it, but I would never call them lemons. They’re in no way meant to be lemons...they're not written that way at all. Neither I, nor Mynxi is championing incest in any way shape or form. Its rape, hands down, and the way that Mynxi writes it makes that more than obvious. And it’s from Charlie’s point of view, of course. So you see his thought processes, how he comes to the decisions, how his mental state deteriorates as his desperate need to bring his daughter back to life literally takes over him.
The sick thing is, that this really happens in the real world. But there is an organisation that deals with situations like this, RAINN. Mynxi has a lot of good to say about this organisation, they are there to help or try and prevent situations like the one that Bella finds herself in.
That being said, I have to warn people that this fic is extremely dark in nature. It can get very graphic in places and may disturb and upset you. But I felt that it needed to be highlighted as so much more than a smut story like others out there with the same paring.
There is now a sequel to this, A True Mate’s Heart, and it can also be read as a standalone story. So for those of you that don’t want all the gritty details, this is where you should start from. This is about Bella’s recovery, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel...and this is where she finds it. At the moment, it’s only one chapter in, but just like everything else Mynxi writes, its shaping up to be a fantastic journey for the readers.
So, there’s my oddity. And make sure to check out Mynxi’s other stories, she really has a brilliant talent for spinning a story. She has a mind fuck of a fic called The Devil Inside that has to be read...no question about it. Not to mention her epic multi-chapter, Saving Bella...and the o/s that you have to be sitting on a stack of towels to read, Chocolate Jasper, among others. *laughs*
