Journey To The Dark Side

There has been a rather heated debate that has recently come to my attention, one that I'm sure you might have seen on countless blogs, twitter, and fandom sites. It deals with some very sensitive subject matter and comes with strong views on both sides. I don't get involved in fan fiction drama because it's pointless and childish. However, this particular subject I want to discuss directly attacks me, this blog, my girls here, and some of my favorite authors in this fandom. It's too big for me to ignore any longer, and I'm not hiding in a hole waiting for someone to come knocking on my door and spewing their “personal opinions” onto us as an attack with no warning. We're going to put this out there now and make some things clear, so prepare yourself.

Ranting from a Raving Lunatic...

I'm sick, I'm bitchy, I'm ranting. I just spent a few hours going through all the new dark fics, trying to find one that I could read, and every time I found one, I was disappointed. I spent two hours reading a fic that started out promising, but it eventually lost my interest.

(BIG DRAMATIC SIGH)

Dark fics have went down hill fast lately, and I'm kind of disappointed in them. I think my heart is broken slightly because of this. Where are all the GOOD (and I stress GOOD) dark fics at? Even I'm clueless nowadays as where to find them. Out of the almost 700 I found in the horror section of FFn, I couldn't find a single one what was worth reading that I haven't already.

So, since this is supposed to be dark fic rec day for me, I'm asking you to appease a sick lady (I have the flu people, not in the head, although I won't argue that either) and please tell me what GOOD, DARK fics you are reading. I'm tired of the crap I'm finding.

NOTE: Izzy has been sick for several days and is somewhat cranky and extremely bitchy. She needs a hug, some cookies and some good dark reads. She's normally not so crass, but she loses any sense of a filter when she gets this way. Please excuse her. KTHNX

Another bitchy rant from Izzy...

BIG RANT COMING YOUR WAY.....

It was brought to my attention last night that a very dear friend of mine, and a contributor of this blog, was sent a very unnecessary PM in regards to one of her stories last night. I find it sad and unbelievable that some people just can't seem to keep their mouths shut when they don't like how someone writes a story.

How hard is it, when you don't like a story, to just move the fuck along and not be hurtful. Ones creativity and ideals should not be attacked. I personally think anyone who leaves PM's or reviews that bash or flame others needs to just move their hateful little asses on out of FF. It's not that we can't take your bullshit, it's that it's petty you would waste our times with having to read your shit when you were (95% of the time) warned what the story was about.

No one should ever have to put up with someone flaming them because they have a difference of opinion. EVER!!!! Fan Fiction authors take time out of their busy lives to give you stories to read and enjoy on your own time. Even if the story, writing, author sucks, there was still time and effort put into posting a story or update and they should not be harassed about where their pen takes them.

I could go on all day about this. So I am ending this rant here. I left Cullen818 a lengthy reply or two on her blog about how I feel and showed her my support. I'm posting the link in case you want to do the same.

PLEASE people. Think before you act on your feelings towards a story. Is it really worth hurting others feelings to show your dislike of someones hard work??? Does it make you feel better to bitch about your difference of opinion? It's not, in case you had to ask that question.

We love and support you Steph. You are amazing and you did nothing wrong. Keep rocking us with your amazing writing and hot Jasper and dark Edward. We love you for it.

Izzy joins the bitchy rants...

One of the girls over at the muses, GemGem020507 , let out a frustrated rant on their blog concerning those who are upset over the treatment of some dark stories, including her own. I for one agree with her. So this is Izzy's version of their Saturday rants on a Sunday. The more I thought on this, the more it pissed me off and I wanted a say so in the matter.

I find it absurd that some readers waste their energy on bashing stories that lean to the dark side. It is for one, the writers choice to explore the darker genre of fics, and for two, should be respected, even if you don't agree with it. It is a fairly well known motto in Fan Fiction. Don't like, don't read.

Why waste your time and energy making an author feel like shit over something they work so hard on? It's rude and just plain bitchy. Most stories will warn you if something is dark and different, but even if it doesn't, it is still the author's story to do with as they please.

What is the purpose of these bitchy rants? Do those who leave these hateful and hurtful comments hope that by some miracle the story will suddenly morph into something different? Or do they just like to make others feel like shit, since they obviously have nothing better to do than bitch and pout about how a story didn't go their way. If you want a story to turn out a certain way, right one yourself. Just sayin'.

I agree with what Gem said. Darksper is no carebear. (Understand the picture now?) "Vampires" for one are mythical creatures who DON"T EXIST!!! Much to amazement of the more hardcore Twilight lovers in the Universe. It is, unbelievably to some, just a story. One that a lady decided to write after a dream she had. Therefore, when we write on tales of fiction based loosely off of her dream, they in return are not real, much like said vampires in question here.

So, tell me this. With the foundation firmly set on the "FACT" that vampires do not exist, why is it such a surprise that an author can make up their own story of dark, blood drinking beings who are out to take lives at will? Is it because you fell in love with the fact that SM's version of these creature's is romanticized and can't stand to see them any other way? The truth in point it's absurd. All old folklore and legends in regards to vampires (checked and nope, still not real) have painted them as blood thirsty creatures with no heart and no morals. So why is that when a writer tries to betray these more "traditional" attributes to one of the "Twilight" vampires (and again, still delving in the realm of fiction here) is it bashed and bitched upon?

Seriously, everyone has an opinion and you are more than entitled to voice it, but for the sake of not being a total ass and making a fool of yourself for needless blathering about how something is not up to "Twilight Code", keep the shit to yourself and don't read the darker stories. You obviously can't handle it and need to run back to your fluffy bunny stories and live in dreams of sparkle boys who swoop you off your feet. (Not that their is anything wrong with that, because we all fell in love with the story and read countless other such tales we swoon upon)

If nothing else, have respect for yourself and keep your ill willed opinions to yourself. No one likes unnecessary bitchiness, and although you may think you are cool because you spout it out unabashedly, it only makes you look like a three year old and drop you attitude at the preschool door.
