It’s that time again, my twisted sistahs in all things poked, pierced, and purrrrvy. Time for us to once again go where no creature of the earth has dared go before, and delve into the deepest, darkest corners of the mind of one of our treasured authors. A moment where a few of you have come forth with all of your secret desires to reveal YOUR favorite moments in YOUR favorite Dark fics.

Today I erase the line in the sand, throw up my virginal *snickers* white flag, and cross the border into, for some, no man’s land. Yes, I, Edward’s Chipper, have tossed aside my personal adoration for the perfection that is all things Edwardian, for the sake of the FLOVE of ALL Cullen men peen, and have welcomed with open thighs…

Three of her biggest fans, and loveliest review whores, MerinaGreen, TillITryIllNeverKnow, and twilightbloom, fell prey to my irresistible charm. They agreed to participate, choosing their favorite scenes from two of Kitty’s kickass fics, making her answer the age-old, million-dollar, winner-gets-all-Cullen-men-at-the-same-time question:

ANNNND, hold onto your corsets my prettehs, for not only is this a history making segment in Kitty joining us, but is also the very first time we’ve had two reviewers pick the very same scene from the very same fic!

*waits for the ooohs and aaaaahs*

So without further bullshit from me, let’s get right down to it…

1^st scene from MerinaGreen AND TillITryIllNeverKnow: Control – Chapter 3

From MerinaGreen:

I have used my powers on humans before. Hell, I've used them on Bella before. I knew that her mind was protected and strong. But her body was weak to my powers. I never thought of it like that. And I couldn't help the small surge of joy that I had, even though I regretted having it. It was...the fact that I had such utter control of her. I could make her feel anything. I sat up and shook my head. What was I thinking? Where did that even come from? Bella was family, after all.

OK, so....while the scene ITSELF isn't dark, it just GRABBED me. Because, it was like Jasper had a revelation. And now that that door was open, there was NO way he was going to be able to close it again. I LOVED it because it opened the same door in MY mind. Of course Jasper could do that. Why hadn't I thought of that before? It made the possibilities...endless. And of course, Jasper being a guy, and being...Jasper, I figured he wasn't going to be using this newly discovered idea for...moralistically sound purposes. It's just a little too tempting, the thought of being able to Control Bella, while she's asleep....

AND of course, a couple chapters later, I was proved right:

Her hips gave a little jerk, and I growled. I desperately wanted to grab and pull and suck until I couldn't anymore. Her other hand moved up and granted my wish, pulling lightly on her nipple through her shirt. She was frantic now, desperate for release, and I wanted it bad-I wanted to see that. "Oh…"she cried, almost imperceptibly, and her body shuddered involuntarily as she reached my goal. I was breathing hard as she rolled to her side, falling into a deep sleep once again.

Oh. My. God.

Then I ran. I ran outside, trying to clear my head and come to my senses, because apparently I didn't have many left. That was my brother's girlfriend. My wife's best friend. And I had just…influenced her to…to what? Act out my own personal fantasy? That was exactly it. I took control again. And I took it too far.

SO hot. Why? Because...it's forbidden. He knows it's WRONG. But he just can't help himself. Because it feels so good.

From TillITryIllNeverKnow:

Let's see, my favorite Dark moments of Kitty's have to come in "Control", specifically the beginning of it. Jasper knows he's going too far with controlling Bella as she sleeps,
but he just can't let it go. It's hard to say at a certain point who is more seduced - Bella, or Jasper by the sheer emotion, power, and allure. It was a toughy to come up with just one, but if I have to choose, that's the part. Be fair, who wouldn't be tempted to miss use that kind of power at a weak moment? The thought alone is provoking.

Kitty's Response:

I had always been curious about Jasper's power. He could make you feel anything he wanted to! I mean, seriously-back in the day, surely he would use this on chicks. I would've. And in my mind, Jasper was always kind of drawn to Bella, so I thought what if he just let go? He used to help her sleep, things of that nature...what if he just slipped a little bit, played around...no harm, no foul right?

Let's see. He can pretty much make his own personal porno whenever he wanted. Granted, he didn't really mean it like that he just liked Bella, and was attracted to her, and got carried away. He's not perfect, that's what I like about him. He felt remorse afterwards-but it goes back to the fact that he's a vampire, and he's going to fall prey to his natural instincts more often than not. He can't have her blood, but by God he can toy with her body-and he didn't even have to touch her!

2nd scene from twilightbloom : Control – Chapter 16

"LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!" Bella had Edward by the neck pressed against the wall-his feet weren't even touching the ground. She used her other hand to smack him hard across the face, leaving a smear of blood behind. Bella had blood on her hands.

"You liked it, though, didn't you?" he choked, staring her straight in the eyes. "After a while, you stop seeing them as beings. Eventually, you only see red. Ask your boyfriend-he knows the feeling well." That earned him another smack.

"Why would you make me do that? If you loved me, you would have let me make my own choice. You never did. And I see now that you never will. I want you to hear me loud and clear. I. Do. Not. Want. You. I want you to leave, and never come back. I do not belong to you." She enunciated every word, never ceasing to look at his face.


While these two paragraphs aren't my "favorite scene" in this fic per se, I like them because she covers so much ground in 3 paragraphs. She exposes Edward's dark side and she's exploring some really intense emotions that Bella is dealing with after having bitten Edward's "gift" and she's not letting Jasper off the hook either. But what intrigues me is the strength of her Bella; she's making her thoughts clear and demanding respect. I love that! Kitty Cullen's work is deceptively simple on the surface-it's easy to read and moves easily. Under that seemingly simple exterior she works at delving into the human and non/human condition in ways that are often surprising. She blends angst, love and self-discovery in ways that other writers often miss and I like that she respects me enough as a reader to challenge my assumptions.

I love her work for many reasons but one of the biggest is that she takes the time to develop her story and her characters. Her attention to detail really pays off for me as a reader; I think of it as painting a background that complements, and helps to bring the true focus of the
painting, to life. That said, she doesn't waste my time with what is (for lack of a better term)"fic canon."

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

Case in point, in "Control" she tells us in her A/N that of course she didn't write about Bella's "death" being staged-that's been done to death (!) and we all know it has to be done. Another reason is that there is always a sense of balance in her work-the dark is balanced either by justice or redemption and the lemons are balanced by tenderness. She doesn't "do" sweet or pain for their own sake-they always have a purpose and reflect her grasp of what really makes people (and vamps!) tick.

Kitty's Response:

*is insanely flattered with said explanation, will try and formulate decent response through blush*

Even though, by the end of this story we know that Edward wasn’t of sound mind, he still did what he did. What I was trying to get at was throughout all the books, Edward essentially makes all of Bella’s choices for her. (don’t look at me like that, you know it’s true.) And here, I thought it would be good to have him do something to once again challenge her choices, trying to force her into something she didn’t want. I thought that he would probably try to force her, and then rationalize-which is what he’s trying to do here. To make her see just what she’s missing, and then soon after trying to apply his warped form of logic. Also, a small part of me always wanted to see Bella kick Edward’s God-for-saken ass. So I let her have a little bit of a beat-down, because let’s face it-he was due one. And Jasper let her have her moment as well, because it was her choice-again, showing the difference between the two of them. He would have stopped her, had she gone too far-maybe. *winks*

Of course, as per usual, I couldn’t let Kitty escape without pillaging her primal proclivities, so I asked her a few, relatively simple, questions.

Where do you get the ideas for your fic? Out of the blue? Family members? Nightmares? Alcohol? ;D

Baha, alcohol. All the time. Okay, not really. Mostly what-if moments. Either from the actual books themselves, or just lounging around going you know, if I was Jasper, I would do this...There’s really no rhyme or reason to it.

You have some other darks fics, but some not so dark ones as well. What do you love most about writing Dark? i.e. the ability to manipulate characters, stepping out of your personal realm of experience, going to the darkside in general, etc.

The way I see it, they’re vampires. Cullens or not. You know? It’s like...yeah, they can play candycanes and unicorns all they want, but deep down there’s going to be a part of them that stays true to their nature. So why not let it out when I can?

What one character thrills you to your bones to take to the darkside? (Chip: Everyone say it with me…DUUUUHHHH!)

Oh lawd, Jasper. The one who never really fit in, who never would. No matter how hard he tried, he was the one always on the cusp of darkness.

Would you like to share anything new that you’re working on/going to post?

Considering what a fail I’ve been at updating lately, I feel like I shouldn’t. *laughs* But I am working on some of the stuff I put on hiatus while I went to school, like Awake in the Dark and Voiceless-which WILL be finished. I’m also branching out of the Twilight fandom a bit and dabbling with some Vampire Diaries stories. It’s nice to do a bit of different every now and then.
