Oceanwaters2006 Guest Reviews Darkward...

Alrighty darklings, I am totally excited today, because not only do we have a very very special guest reviewer to help us kick off our new blog rec'ing system going on here, but we get to have our first official non-Darksper rec. Yes, we have our first Darkward, who is my favorite vamp characterization outside of Darksper, and this fic she's going to rec you is U-mazing!!!

So, sit back, relax and enjoy what our girl oceanwaters2006 has to offer you today.

Thanks a million to Jasper’s Izzy for letting me come on here and jabber about whatever I please. Seriously though, I’m here to rec a great fic…one that I rec to anyone who stands still long enough to listen because when I’m excited about a good read…I gotta share it with the world.

If Love Could Light a Candle by Pastiche Pen
Summary:
Edward Cullen: telepath, vampire, and psychologist. When a new patient ignites unfamiliar feelings in his soul, can he reconcile his past with his future?
A la Midnight Sun. Dark noir.

This is a Darkward story, not a Darksper, although, it does have a very sexy (in my opinion) Jasper in it, which we’ll get to in a minute. So your first questions is, why should I read this story? What about it makes it great? Well, let me tell you, first and foremost what carries this story is amazing writing. Before you even get into the heart of the story, you’ll be sucked in simply by Pastiche Pen’s amazing ability to tell a story. She has her own style that is refreshing and simply engaging and I envy her talent as much as I love it.

The second thing that will amaze you about this story? The research that she’s put into it. Everything she writes she researches to make sure it’s time period authentic. Even Jasper, she writes him at his southern roots so well, I swear to you, you’ll feel like this is the Jasper you wish you would have seen in the books themselves. The deep southern twang, his use of time period relevant (as to his birth) sayings that were common in the deep south… Really, it’s just the little things that take this story line from good to HOLY FREAKING AMAZING!

Now you’re wondering, WHAT is this story about? Edward, mostly. Remember that mention in the books of when Edward went rogue and decided human killing was the way to go? But how he only went after criminals? This details that, and its effects later on his psyche when having therapy sessions with Bella and others such as Ben.

With every chapter, Pastiche starts off the story with a flashback of Edward in the years when he was killing humans, his methods of fishing out criminals, his struggles, how he killed them, his thoughts on Carlisle and Esme. And let me tell you, I cried with every single one. On top of that, my jaw dropped with every one of them too. It’s so enriched that you just get sucked in and you feel like you’re a part of it, like you’re a fly on the wall watching this all unfold. You’re not reading words anymore; you’re seeing this all happen and feeling all the emotions attached, it’s amazing.

In the second part of the chapters, we come to present times, where Edward is dealing with reengaging himself in society, his new “job” as a psychologist, his meeting with Bella, dealing with his bloodlust for her and trying to help her, her father, her friends. It’s very difficult for him, and with the intimate look back at his past, it’s easier to see and understand why. You have the ability to better connect with this struggle that Edward goes though, these emotions that he battles with, because you understand more about his history.

If you love a good story, great writing, and truly an amazing ride, please go read and worship at the throne to Pastiche Pen, and when you’re done with If Love Could Light a Candle, believe me, she’s got plenty more waiting, and all worth the time to read! You will not be disappointed!

Thanks again to Jasper’s Izzy….Love you, darling! And thanks for having my lazy-took-forever-to-get-you-something-written-up butt on here! Please feel free to add any squeeing on this story that you have to this!

Thank you so much to our girl oceanwaters2006, for finding us an awesome rec and sending us over her wonderful thoughts. Lubs you sweet cheeks. You gave an awesome story to read and a beautiful review. It was totally worth the wait.

I can say this because I have in fact read this story, quit recently too, and I was so hooked on it that I couldn't step away from my computer for two days. It owned me.

I loved her Jasper. He has a twang in his accent that made me die of giggles more than once, but he also had a way of telling you like it is. He was wonderful.

The flashbacks were brilliant and added to the whole story. I think they are what made everything tie together so nicely. This wasn't just another E/B fic. It was a journey to Edward finding out who he really was in the midst of carnage and love. It also helped us see into Edward's "rebellious" years and get an idea of what led him there and what brought him back from it. It makes you understand Edward's character so much better.

Carlisle was amazing!!! He was the epitome of a caring father but also wise beyond his years. I can not give his character enough praise in this story. I really can't, because he was so beautifully written and exactly how you think Carlisle would be in RL, only stepped up a notch. I've never read a Carlisle like him and he was so well written I took my breath away.

The suspense? Oh, the suspense was mind-blowing. I was on the edge of my seat in the latter chapters so much so I thought I would go crazy with wanting to know what was going to happen. The twists and turns and the guessing was unreal, and being the complete angst hoor I am, I was blown away! I didn't expect things to take the turn they did, but boy was it it a pleasant surprise.

I wish for every one of you to read this fic, just so you can come to me so we can talk about it. The best thing of all... This fic is complete. No waiting for updates.

This is one of the best Darkward's I have read and I believe Pastiche Pen did a fantastic job with it, so kudos to you darlin' for writing such a captivating fic. So run, read this great work of art and give Miss Pen your love for her amazing story.
