Why Darkward Does it for Me...

I’ve always liked dark, twisted stories, so I think that’s why vampires appealed to me ever since I was young. While I thoroughly enjoyed the Twilight series, the Cullen’s just weren’t vamp enough for me. I love them and I don’t regret reading the series, watching the movies and writing several stories featuring them, but fundamentally there was something missing for me. Imagine my delight when I found a whole Twilight Fan Fiction genre dedicated to the darker side of the Cullen men.

Over the next few weeks I’d like to explore each hot, sexy Darken (Dark Cullen). I’ll write what it is that makes them work and even recommend a few of my faves.

In honor of our new revised blog, I’m starting with Edward. As much as I love Jasper, Darkward is my favorite bad-ass character especially when he is written well. Some of the best Darkwards that I’ve read are those that take his controlling canon tendencies and bring them into a more dominant and stalkerish light. Now, that doesn’t mean that he has to be physically abusive, but he needs to have that edge to him; the one that makes us weak in the knees and has us screaming for him to bite us.

Darkward is at his sexiest when he is a human drinking vampire and I’ve found several o/s that really do him justice. I’ve decided to rec a few o/s rather than full blown fics because I know we will eventually get to the full stories on this blog and if you’ve never experienced a dark Edward fic a o/s is a great place to start. So, here are a few of my top must reads…

Into the Arms of Oblivion by DarkAbsynthe

Summary - Six years after leaving Bella in the forest, Edward lives a life of abject misery, grasping at the shreds of oblivion rarely within his reach. Edward x Bella. Rated M for lemons and other disturbing things.

This was such a different take on our Darkward. He does things in this fic that we normally wouldn't consider. You'll have to read to see what I mean. This was a very well developed o/s that could certainly be turned into a full blown fic. He is miserable and disturbed. Can he reconnect with Bella? Very original story line.

The Claiming by Leria

Summary - This is a BxE one shot that I submitted on Twilighted dot net for a smut challenge. It is M/NC-17 rated for mature audiences only! Bella finally gets what she has wanted from Edward since her change.

This one is just a hawt little lemony story of what would happen if Edward properly claimed Bella and did what he should have done in Breaking Dawn.

In My Mind by Delandora

Summary - While dealing with a horrible past, Bella meets the dark and dominant vampire, Edward Masen. Will his graphic, horrible nature and possessive companionship make her feel normal? Dark themes/language/lemons. ExB/AU/OOC.

This has to be one of my absolute favorite dark Edward tales. It not only features our main vamp, but an extremely unstable Bella as well. She retells their encounters in flashback as she anxiously awaits his return. This is a very detailed and well written o/s. I very much enjoyed the twist at the end. I found it captivating and different.

It’s also worth mentioning that Edward doesn’t have to be a vampire to be dark. This o/s was chilling and scary and he doesn’t even have to drink blood…

The Green Dress by littlesecret84

Summary - Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen cross paths one evening. This will be a night that he never forgets.

This story had me from the beginning. It’s a well written, well developed o/s. I can’t give too much away, but this is one of the most disturbed Edward’s I’ve read and I loved him. What’s that say about me? Hmm…well, you’ll just have to read to find out.

So, I’ve given you enough to get your feet wet. Check back next time when I explore that sexy, Southern vamp… Darksper in all his nasty glory.
