Happy Friday! Hope you all have some delicioulsly wicked weekend plans. Mine include Friday night karate, Saturday morning soccer, playdates and a science project. None of these activities belong to me. See why I'm so heavily involved in Fanfiction? I need an escape!
In any case, here we are with our first addition of Defile Me Friday (thanks to EvieKinz for helping me come up with the title). Here's how it works, the week that I do my fic rec, I'll come back on Friday and defile the brain of the author of the fic I rec'd.
This week, I rec'd tHirTeEn by Twolipps.
Here's what she had to offer us about her new, dark and demented fic.
Here's what she had to offer us about her new, dark and demented fic.
What motivates you to write a darker Jasper?
I am fascinated by the bad-boy persona. By nature, I am a strong willed female, so men that take control over situations make me hot under the collar :) Jasper’s military background and his extensive knowledge of fighting make him the perfect sexy bad boy. I didn’t want him to be good and understanding and kind, because that’s been written so many times. I wanted to tell Jasper’s truth including his struggles, even if it wasn’t sugar coated and packaged up neatly. In my story, you may love him in some chapters, and then hate him in others (at least that’s what I’m initially setting out to do!)
Without giving too much away, can you share the premise of the story? What you have in store for us?
Basically, the Cullen’s have just battled with Victoria for territory rights, and have won. Bella and two others have stumbled upon the end of the war, and because Bella is shielding herself and the other two, the Cullen’s do not detect them hiding out in the woods. Bella, Jessica and Mike are discovered, The Volturi show up and Aro realizes Bella’s potential as a vampire. He says that she must agree to be changed, or die. She agrees, reluctantly, to be changed. Aro decrees that Jasper has thirteen months in order to change her, train her and take her to Volterra to join the Guard. But at the end of thirteen months, will Jasper be willing to give her up, or will he fight the Volturi to keep her as his mate?
What’s in store?
Hmmm… Bella and Jasper will not immediately fall in love, yet they will both feel—and try to hide—their mutual attraction to each other. There will be a lot of fighting, a lot of jealousy, and a lot of loving. *wink wink*
I don’t write from an outline, so we’ll just have to see where this takes us!
This is your first vamp fic, how does it differ from your AH fic for you as a writer?
I have to constantly remind myself to not assign human characteristics to a vampire. For example, I can’t say, when referring to a vamp, “my heart stopped beating”, because their hearts are already dead! Also, I have to keep track of each vamp’s gifts and how they affect the story. Because I am slightly modifying Bella’s gift, I have to also make sure that it factually flows throughout the story.
Describe for us what/who comes to mind when you imagine a dark, chilling, dirty Jasper?
My dark Jasper speaks his mind, and to me, he is more realistic because he isn’t just the perfect man. He’s rough, tactless in his speech at times, and sometimes he doesn’t care who’s feelings he hurts. He wrestles with this side of himself, trying to keep his demon at bay—he wants to be a better person without losing who he really is. Bella will eventually pull the good out of him without killing his natural personality.
One reader asked me why I wrote the title the way I did, and after thinking about it for a while, I realized that it’s because it symbolizes Jasper’s up and down journey to be a better person, as well as his growing—then denying-- feelings for Bella. (Plus, I think it catches the eye! LOL)
And score, she's given us a teaser...
Aro grabbed her by the neck, lifting her slightly off of the ground. “You want a choice, fine, I’ll give you a choice. You choose to become one of us, or you die. But let’s be clear about it little girl, I won’t just suck you dry, I will torture you first. I’ve been alive for over three thousand years, I’ve seen many humans die, and I’ve killed more than I can remember, I can assure you, you will not like my methods.”
So, if you haven't already done so, and I don't know why you wouldn't have since I told you on Tuesday to go read this fic, head on over there now!
